Here in the New York area we are all painfully
aware of the implications and realities of the term disaster
recovery. September 11, 2001 is an infamous day that brought
tragic loss of life and the destruction of two of Manhattan's
landmark buildings. The terrorist attacks precipitated an
extreme situation, and while all of us at The Meehan Consulting
Group dreaded the hourly updates from Ground Zero, we were
immersed in disaster recovery efforts on behalf of several
of our outsourced clients. Having years before entered into
a long-term engagement for ongoing relocation management services,
these corporation had had the foresight to include Meehan's
disaster recovery services in their contract.
On the occasion of this disaster, and a previous
one resulting from a water main break, our Senior Logistics
Director (who is accessible 24/7, no exceptions) was contacted
immediately, initiated a previously formulated strategy and
mobilized our team of experienced project managers and coordinators.
Our complete familiarity with a company's physical space,
network infrastructure, human resource issues and other critical
elements enables us to articulate contingency plans and, as
soon as the need arises, put those plans into action immediately
upon notification. The water main break occurred at One New
York Plaza on a Saturday afternoon. This disaster precipitated
the arrival of three Meehan project managers and 20 movers
within two hours, and our evacuation efforts continued throughout
the following week, with Meehan providing staff around the
clock, until complete office contents had been removed and
relocated to a place designated by the client.
The volume of relocation contracts under our
direction results in our ability to mobilize moving company
staff more quickly and to buy moving services more cost-effectively
than any other single organization in the U.S. In truth, we
can manage the relocation of as many as 5,000 people in a
single weekend on 24 hours notice.
At The Meehan Consulting Group, we understand
that any relocation activity requires a high degree of flexibility
and responsiveness from us. But, by its very nature, disaster
recovery demands the ultimate in flexibility and responsiveness
and we are proud to say we have delivered successfully for
our clients on each occasion throughout our history.
